Looking for something different to do in Manhattan? How about pretending you’re a mermaid and taking a ride on a fish that changes colors while music plays in the background? (Or is that just MY fantasy?) Anyway, that’s what I did Friday night. And, no, I was not taking drugs. I went to the Seaglass Carousel in Battery Park!
For a measly $5 for a ticket, you can climb aboard a fish and let your imagination take off. Make sure to pick a fish within the circles on the ground because they’re the ones that go up and down while twirling around, and give you the most bang for your buck (or five bucks, as the case may be)!
The minute the ride starts, the light show begins. Everything turns different colors and sometimes it looks like you’re actually underwater. Or maybe that was from the glass of wine I drank earlier at the Pier A Harbor House restaurants that are located about 100feet away, and right on the water.
With or without wine, though, it’s worth visiting. And whether you dream of being a mermaid or not, it’s lots of fun. My friend and I actually rode it twice.
All this fun is located in Battery Park and is a perfect place to bring kids, or a date, or friends. Go before or after taking the Staten Island Ferry which is about a 10-minute walk away, or after enjoying a glass of wine and a view of the Statue of Liberty.
And if you can go at sunset, it’s all the better, as you will enjoy some extra special light effects free of charge courtesy of Mother Nature.
